Children will daydream about splashing in the surf as they manipulate the ocean in a bottle. Remove the label from an empty, two-liter or a one-liter plastic soda bottle; then rinse the bottle well. Fill one-fourth of the bottle with sand. Fill the rest of the bottle with water; then add a drop or two of blue food coloring. Complete the bottle scene by adding small seashells and other plastic ocean trinkets. Hot-glue the cap onto the bottle. Encourage students to shake, turn, and roll the bottle to explore its contents.
